Sunset on the Bay, Cape Cod

Recently I was commissioned to do this painting and I was thrilled.  The scene lifted me up and sent me back to the many sunsets I have been priviledged to witness.  Before I begin a commission I like to spend some time getting into the scene and envisioning it completely done.   I woke with a vision of the underpainting which I felt needed desperately to be pink but  I’d never done a pink underpainting in all these years.  However, I could not ignore what I felt was right.  Well, it turned out I was wise to follow my intuition.  Once I laid down the pink, the painting came alive faster than normal.   I was able to provide the finished product a few days before the Christmas holiday.
